A short history of attempts to ‘view music’ through various visualizations and representations will be presented, highlighting the ways in which such developments are tied to technological advances in musical production, storage, and data-mining. Ways in which a music maker’s decision regarding their “working representation” can either limit or enable their creativity will be demonstrated.
